Check Email

Email gets easier when you know what to look for and what to do with each message.

Start with the inbox

Open your email app or website and look for unread messages, sender names, dates, and subject lines.

  1. Scan for messages from people, jobs, banks, schools, or services you use.
  2. Open the most important message first.
  3. Do not click strange links or attachments from senders you do not recognize.

Decide what each email needs

Most email needs one of four actions: reply, save, delete, or ignore.

  1. Reply if someone needs an answer.
  2. Save if it contains a receipt, appointment, or instruction.
  3. Delete obvious junk.
  4. Leave low priority messages for later.
Try this: You do not need inbox zero. You need to find what matters when it matters.
Final takeaway: Check sender, subject, date, and requested action before clicking anything.
